Chennai bound Tamil Nadu Express coming from New Delhi had a fire accident in the early hours of the day. Tamil Nadu Express from New Delhi to Chennai was involved in a fire accident while the train was leaving Nellore station (Andhra Pradesh), early this morning. Coach S -11 had caught fire and nearly 40 are feared dead while the rest in the compartment are critically injured. Reasons of fire are yet to be established.
S-11 compartment has been consumed in flames and all the passengers in the compartment have been affected. The specific compartment has been disconnected from the whole train to avoid fire engulfing the adjacent ones. The fire started due to a short circuit near a toilet of the coach at about 4:28 am. The coach had 17 people from Delhi, 11 from Bhopal, 28 from Vijayawada, 07 from Warangal, 6 from Jhansi, three from Agra and one from Nagpur, in total 72.
Five of the injured are being treated at Bollineni and six are being treated in Jayabharath hospitals in Nellore town. Resue team is in place and a special train shall leave with passengers from Nellore around 9.30 am, say railway sources.
