The desi missile Agni-I which was nuclear capable, surface to surface missile was sucessfully tested from a military base in Odisha according to a defence official.

Agni-I is capable of hitting the bull's eye from 700 kms away when loaded with a nuclear warhead that measures one tonne. This missile was tested on Friday, by the armed forces from Wheeler Island near Dhamra, Bhadrak district which is only 170 km from Odisha's capital city, Bhubaneshwar.

Director of the Integrated Test Range said, "It hit the target with hundred per cent accuracy. It was a perfect test. This was another user trial with a short range."

Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) chief VK Saraswat was also present while the operation was being carried out.

Agni has been classified as an intermediate range ballistic missile. The solid propulsion booster and a liquid propulsion upper stage, which were originally present in Prithvi, India's first indigenously developed ballistic missile, were used in this missile too.
