Unaccounted 32 Cr cash seized before by-polls

As the by-polls heat up the state, political parties cutting barriers seem to pump in heavy funds to win the elections in Andhra Pradesh. Stunning revelations by the officers speaks volumes about how prestigious the tri-party contest is mounting to be. With just a week to go the regular high way patrols and rigorous checking by the security personnel almost Rs 41 Cr has been seized till date confirm sources. For most parties it is a win or succumb situation and the heat of the battle is on, say experts. Of the seized Rs 32 Cr cash and precious metals worth Rs 9 Cr, in fact as per stats this is larger than seizures in 2009.

During the general elections in 2009 nearly Rs 38 Cr was seized. But the amount looks like slightly higher in this present election. However in reality the amount is very huge considering that only 18 seats are to be polled on June 12. The state has already excelled for being notorious for distribution of money, valuables and free flow of liquor during elections.

The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Bhanwarilal expressed dismay over such huge amounts and said more will be pumped out as the zero hour approaches, after extensive searches. "275 complaints of various natures have been received from various political parties and others since the date of announcement of the by-polls and 117 of them have been acted upon. The remaining 158 cases are being pursued and action will be initiated in a couple of days," said CEO.  (With Inputs from Internet- Aarkay)
