Vijayalakshmi adamant on contesting, turns down CM’s request

Ms. Vijayalakshmi, widow of the late independent MLA Rajeswara reddy, ruled out her leaving the by poll fray in Mahaboobnagar constituency today.

Denying reports in a section of the media that she has decided not to contest the by poll at Mahaboobnagar, she said she is very much in the contest and has not given any promise to any one to the contrary.

Following her meeting with CM Kirankumar Reddy at the State Secretariat Friday evening, media speculated that she has decided to opt out of the poll fray.

“It is true I met the CM. He told me there is no question of changing the party candidate at Mahaboobnagar and promised me I would get a befitting status in the party in the future. But the CM failed to explain what that status could be for me,” she told journalists.

“Despite Kirankumar’s request to me not to contest, I am very much in the fray,” she declared.

Vijayalakshmi was angered after the party high command dropped her name from the list of party candidates and selected Mutyala Prakash, DCC president and a BC leader in her place at the eleventh hour.

Vijayalakshmi’s husband Rajeswara reddy, who was a congress-attached independent member of the assembly, recently died of heart attack necessitating the by poll. (JUBS)
