Drastic Train accident in Argentina early Wednesday morning claimed 49 lives leaving several injured. Rescue operations are going on in full swing.
Argentina’s capital Buenos Aires was rocked by a massive train accident on Wednesday morning killing 49 passengers and leaving 600 more injured. The reason of the accident has been referred to brakes failure. The crowded commuter train lost control due to brakes failure and rammed into a crowded Once de Septiembre station around 8:30 a.m.
As reported in The Wall Street Journal: Federal police spokesman Fernando Sostre said 49 people were confirmed dead in the accident, one of the worst in Argentina's history. But rescuers, who spent much of the morning pulling victims from the wreckage, said the toll could rise. Transportation Secretary Juan Pablo Schiavi described the accident as "very grave" and attributed it to "some flaw in the brakes."
Fierce efforts from disaster management team are visible as they barge in to the mangled train from the roof and pull out the victims. Several ambulances were pressed into service and first aid workers are attending the injured on the accident spot. Meanwhile the leftist parties criticized the ruling party over the accident.
