The Supreme Court-constituted experts’ committee, headed by eminent conservationist M.V. Nair, has begun the inventory of Sree Anantha Padmanabha Swamy temple’s treasure at Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala today.
The committee is documenting and recording the inventory of the priceless treasures found in the secret chambers of the temple with the help of electronic gadgets and devices supplied by state-run Keltron.
Sources said the committee has begun the work first with the two vaults containing mostly silver and brass articles like utensils and lamps. After completing the work, it will take up inventory of the treasure found in other vaults.
The inventory is being undertaken jointly by another committee appointed by the apex court. This committee is being headed by former High Court judge M.N. Krishnan.
Unconfirmed reports said the total wealth could be valued at Rs 1 lakh crore by modest estimates but several historians and scholars have criticised the attempts to asses the treasure in terms of its value. (JUBS)
