There are talks that the Vault has been filled with treasures that includes gold, silver, diamonds and other precious stones, cast into ornaments, idols, coins, vessels and many more.
The estimated value of the treasures of Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple is said to be Rs 1 lakh crores which is huge. Veteran journalist Malayinkil Gopalakrishnan who is an authority of Travancore history revealed that there are no documents what remains in Vault B of Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple. However he said that there have been lot of speculations floating about this which is not good for the temple.
Gopalakrishnan said that from 14th to 17th century, the day to day history has been recorded on the palm leaves. Using materials like Thali Ola and Narayam, there are 3.5 lakh bundles written as per the history. All these are under the custody of State Archives informed Gopalakrishnan. The oldest document located among them has been from 1336. These documents revealed that the temple has been quite rich from the 14th century itself. Along with acres of land, huge amounts of gold and ornaments are said to be a part of the temple’s wealth.
Gopalakrishnan revealed that there are historic theories how these massive ornaments reached the temple. Most of the wealth has been donated by the Kings of Travancore. After an extensive research, Gopalakrishnan says that the Vault B with immense treasures should be opened. Following the Guruvayoor temple, he suggests, the administration can be handed over to a trust that includes members of the royal family.
