TRS develops cold feet over by polls

Amid reports that the TRS, the main protagonist-party of the separate Telangana, may have lost some solid ground in the Telangana region in the backdrop of the freezing of the T stir for the last few months, the party has become jittery over setting up of its candidates in the impending by elections in six assembly seats in the region.

In majority of the six constituencies where by polls are due, the TRS has been facing rough weather and almost adverse conditions in view of the changed circumstances.

After Gampa Govardhan of Kamareddy in Nizamabad district and T Rajaiah of Station Ghanpur in Warangal district quit the assembly and switched sides to the TRS from the TDP and Congress respectively, TRS is bound to field them as candidates but the two candidates are reportedly facing rough weather in their constituencies purely for personal reasons.

In Mahaboobnagar where the TRS wants to field the Telangana Employees' Joint Action Committee leader Srinivas Goud as its candidate, it is facing a peculiar problem. Late MLA Rajeshwar Reddy’s wife has decided to contest as an independent candidate and is bound to win on sympathy factor. She refused to contest on TRS ticket.

In Nagarkurnool in Mahbubnagar district, TRS is under obligation to support the candidature of Nagam Janardhan reddy, who quit the TDP for Telangana cause. He also refused to contest on TRS ticket.

Adding to these wounds, the BJP is making inroads into the TRS vote giving another blow to its winning chances. Of course, the TRS has fair chances of winning in the remaining two constituencies Adilabad and Kollapur.

The TRS fears that the opponents of the Telangana agitation would gain an upper hand in the event of adverse results in any of these constituencies for it. (JUBS)
