Due to a low depression formed in the Bay of Bengal, heavy rains have been lashing the coastal districts of Nellore, Guntur and Prakasam since last night and crops in thousands of acres have been flooded.

Reports said black gram, green gram, chilly and ground nut crops in most of the villages in these districts have been submerged in the sudden rains causing unprecedented loss to farmers.

Rumours are also ruling roost among the fishermen of the coastal areas that a tsunami is likely. With the depression gaining strength, fishermen have stopped going into the sea since this morning.

More rains are expected in the districts in the next 24 hours under the influence of the depression. (JUBS)
