Congress today issued whip to all its MLAs asking them to be present in the house on March 16 and 17 and to vote for the party candidates in the elections to the Legislative Council from the MLAs’ constituency.
Party chief whip Mr Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka told media persons in Hyderabad that all members must obey the whip and action would be taken against violators. Election to 10 MLC seats would take place on March 17 from the constituency of MLAs.
The elections have raised interest among all parties as vacancies are ten but 12 candidates are in the fray. The congress, along with its allies, is contesting for seven seats and TDP is contesting for 4 seats with the support of the CPI. The TRS is also contesting for one seat.
Congress and its allies have no strength to win the seventh seat while TDP has no strength to win the 4th seat. The TRS also has no required strength to ensure the victory of its candidate. In this backdrop, elections have become of utmost interest and the fear of cross voting is lurking among all parties.
The congress party has mainly issued the whip with the fear of cross voting on part of the MLAs who have openly announced support to the former Kadapa MP YS Jaganmohan reddy.
