Tension returned to the campus of Osmania University in Hyderabad after a long gap today as steel helmeted police stopped a rally of students who began their march to the Sitaphalmandi Railway station to participate in the rail blockade agitation.
When the students’ rally was about to reach the railway station, police descended on the spot and stopped the rally resulting in fierce arguments between the two sides.
Students tried to resist the police presence and move forward to the railway station but police foiled their attempts and tried to send them back to the campus. Most of the students however refused to go back and raised slogans against the police and state government.
Meanwhile, across Telangana, hundreds of pro-Telangana activists and leaders were arrested for trespassing into railway tracks and obstructing the moment of trains.
In Hyderabad alone, police have arrested 53 persons at various locations for obstructing moment of trains and occupying railway tracks. Cyderabad Police Commissioner Dwaraka Tirumala Rao told news persons that they have registered cases against the arrested persons under various sections of the Railway Act and all of them would be produced before the courts.
