10 killed: Accident at Sattenapally

nagarjun-sagar10 women, all agricultural workers of Sundarayya Colony in Sattenapally town, were killed and four others injured when the tractor-trailer in which they were travelling fell into the Nagarjuna Sagar canal near Sattenapally in Guntur district this morning.

Police and local men, who worked as rescue teams, recovered nine bodies and the condition of one among the four injured is stated to be serious.

Witnesses said the accident occurred when the driver of the tractor was negotiating a right turn into an agricultural field. There are totally 24 persons in the trailer of the ill fated tractor, according to officials.

Senior officials including the in charge district collector Mr A. Sarath and SP Ravi Chandra had rushed to the spot to supervise the rescue operation. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Kirankumar Reddy directed the district Collector to provide compensation to the victims as per the rules.

PRP leader Dileep Byra, on hearing the news, also rushed to the spot of the accident and spoke to the officials.  He requested the officials to announce adequate compensation to the families of those killed in the accident and the injured.
