After the heinous crime in Delhi that claimed the life of an innocent sister, many unreported things are coming to light slowly. When Andhra Wishesh tried speaking to many young women in Hyderabad, most of them said that they faced so much of inconvenience on public transportation that they literally had to hold their bags tight and wait for their stop to come.
It has to be mentioned here that almost all RTC buses in Hyderabad will ply packed with passengers especially during office hours-in the morning and the evening. The crowd will be so much that a few indecent guys apparently take it as an advantage to proceed closer to women who occupy the front space of the bus. The women pointed out that this was also a type of harassment and authorities should put a check to the same.
Here are some solutions, according to experts, that can put a check to harassment on public transportation.
-
There should be a boundary zone in buses (something like Lakshmana Rekha) wherein any man crossing that border should be fined heavily besides taking his name and contact details for recording it on a special complaint sheet that would be available in digital format on all buses
-
Those crossing boundary zones more than thrice will automatically enter police records and he will be under eagle eye of the police
-
Men touching women on buses from any angle should be warned by the women and if the same continues she should slap him. In case, he revolts, she should seek the support of conductor and drag him to the police station
-
Women should be encouraged to inform police whenever she faces eve teasing at a particular locality
Andhra Wishesh strongly propagates these ideas. What's your take on this? Are you with us in protecting the daughters of India? Join your hands and raise your voices. Adopt a zero tolerance to harassment in any form. We are with you!
