Uttar Pradesh's former chief minister Mayawati's marble statue in Ambedkar Park in Gomtinagar, Lucknow has been beheaded by a political outfit which is not very popular, UP Navnirman Sena.
The leaders in a press conference had claimed resposibility to this vandalization. A few activists, 6 of them, had come on two motorcycles and bludgeoned the head of Mayawati's statue mercilessly in minutes before even police could act on the issue.
The Sena leaders have said that it was they way of expression of anger against the scams under Mayawati's rule.
They have also given a deadline of 2 days to Akhilesh Yadav, the now CM of Uttar Pradesh asking him to remove all the statues of Mayawati in the city. Seniors police officials and the leaders of the Bahujan Samaj Party immediately reached to the location of the incident. BSP leader Swami Prasad Maurya had said that this represents the anti-dalit mentality of the people responsible.
Police were set up in various locations and security was tightened in several places. Akhilesh condemned the act and said that he would get the statue back in shape soon.
