Websites given Feb 6 deadline for removing derogatory content

Delhi Metropolitan magistrate Sudesh Kumar today ordered 21 websites including Facebook, Microsoft, Google, Yahoo and Youtube to remove derogatory contents by February 6 from their networking sites and submit the compliance report by the same date.

The court directed them to remove the ‘anti-religious’ or ‘anti-social’ content from their sites by the given deadline. It may be recalled that the Magistrate issued summons to the website representatives on Friday to face trial for allegedly webcasting objectionable contents. The court issued summons after it received a private complaint on the matter.

Out of the 21, the representatives of two websites, Yahoo India and Microsoft, attended the court today and informed they had not received the copies of the court order and complaint against them. They pleaded with the judge to provide the same to them.

The court then ordered the counsel for the complainant to provide the companies with the copies of the complaint and other related documents. (JUBS)
