Delhi turns a centurion as `Custodian of Power’

Delhi the city of Power centric kingpins have ruled the country, since a hundred years. On December 12, a grand congregation of royalty and British soldiers assembled at the Delhi Durbar as King George V proclaimed Delhi as the new Capital of Imperial India, shifting from Kolkata. Delhi keeps growing, scaling new heights and acquiring new aspirations. Delhi is infact a conglomeration of many cities and is infested with diverse cultures which have seated in its power chambers to control the nation. The political hub of the country, Delhi shines in its historic glory and versatile monarchy since a hundred years.

The city is geared up to celebrate its hundredth power birthday. Indian politics originate at Delhi and end up there too. The centenary of the establishment of New Delhi will be marked by year-long celebrations, being planned by the Delhi government and other cultural agencies like the Indian Council for Cultural Relations.

In an effort to trace the history of Delhi and its culture, an exhibition called ‘Dastan-e-Dilli’, showcasing archival pictures and lithographs, will be set up at Azad Bhawan in IP Estate. The exhibition of archival pictures will chronicle Delhi’s history through the centuries, from the time it was the capital of the Mughal Empire. The exhibition will be thrown open to the public on December 14 and will go on till December 21.

A book on the history of seven cities of Delhi “Red Fort to Raisina,” edited by J.P. Losty, Union Minister Salman Khursheed, conservation architect Ratish Nanda and publisher of Seminar Malvika Singh will be released by Ms. Dikshit. A food festival ‘Delhi Ke Pakwan Festival' is already under way.  INTACH that is currently working on the conservation and development of the Coronation Park for the DDA also has a list of activities planned for the year.
