Court notice to 16 WB officers for misuse of National emblem

The National emblem is a mark of pride for every Indian and needs to be revered by all. In a bizarre incident the Calcutta High Court received a petition about the misuse of the National Emblem by none other than our esteemed officers of the Indian Administrative Service and Indian Police Service officers in West Bengal. And not one or two but sixteen of them cited to have erred on the nation’s pride Emblem. The act needed to be condemned. The Apex court on Thursday issued notices to the officers asking why contempt proceedings should not be started against them for misuse or improper display of the national emblem.

The Apex court received a petition filed by K. Dey, which alleged that the officers, including the West Bengal chief secretary, home secretary and the director general of police, were violating the provisions of the Emblems and Names (Prevention of Improper Use) Act by making unauthorized use of the emblem.

In response the Apex court, a division bench of Justice P.C. Ghosh and Justice Tarun Gupta directed the officers to reply to the notices by Dec 21. Mr. Dey moved the petition Wednesday after he was directed by the court Sep 2 to bring to its notice if its order for proper display of the national emblem was violated. The notice has once again put back the trust of the common man in the Country’s legal system and emphasizes ` No one is above Law.’
