Congress party president Sonia Gandhi was ranked No. 7 in the Forbes list of the most powerful women of the world. German Chancellor Angela Merkel topped the Forbes list while Indra Nooyi, the CEO of PepsiCo US, also made it to the list of top ten.
The list is dominated by politicians, businesswomen and leaders in media and entertainment with the US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton being placed in the second spot followed by Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff.
US First Lady Michelle Obama, who topped the list last year, dropped to No. 8 behind Sonia Gandhi in the current ranking.
The list of the 100 most powerful women released on Wednesday by Moira Forbes, president and publisher of Forbes Woman, contains 8 heads of state and 29 CEOs. “The list reflects the women of diverse and dynamic paths of the modern society,” she said in a statement. Twenty two in the list are single.
