Chennai college girl stripped to find out…

child-harresmentIn a shocking incident of privacy violation, a girl student of the Prince Shri Venkateswara Arts and Science College in Chennai was stripped by her Physical Education Teacher to find out if she was carrying a cell phone with her.

The college has imposed a ban on the use of cell phones on college campus and instead of using metal detectors and signal jammers to prevent the students from carrying cell phones, the authorities have been resorting to frisking.

The girl lodged a complaint with the University of Madras Vice Chancellor Mr G Thiruvasagam who has appointed a committee to inquire into the incident and submit a report. “We will take suitable action on receiving the complaint,” he told journalists in Chennai today.

To a question, the Vice-Chancellor said they had not given any directions to any college on use of mobile phones or on dress code.  Meanwhile, several students across the city condemned the incident and described it as an attack on privacy of girl students.
