Young brains create 4-in-1 solar product

Young brains create 4-in-1 solar productUsing their technical excellence and research mind, two young engineering graduates of Chennai, Nagarajan, 25, and Karthick, 28, have designed and developed a four-in-one solar emergency lamp which works as a light, an MP3 player, FM radio and a mobile charger port.

Developed with the financial aid of the Tamil Nadu Industrial Investment Corporation (TIIC) under the ‘Grow an Entrepreneur’ scheme, the multipurpose product named ‘Tonelite’ hit the market and is finding its way into the shelves of several government offices and private firms in Tamil Nadu.

The two engineers build their production at their dream factory in their 8x8 ft room at Aminjikaai in Chennai and always design their innovative products based on the needs of the people. They have recently invented an inverter which automatically switches to solar mode during the day.

Started with a loan amount of Rs.2 lakh from the TIIC in 2010, they have now given employment to four persons. They want to employ more people gradually as their factory grows.

The solar lamps at the Government Eye Hospital at Egmore stand as a symbol of their technical excellence and entrepreneurial skills.
