An unrelenting Indian Yoga guru Baba Ram Dev said today he would go ahead with his proposed indefinite fast from June 4 in New Delhi demanding strong measures to end the menace of corruption in the country and bring back the black money stashed away in foreign banks.
Addressing reporters in Delhi, Ramdev said that black money and corruption were two sides of the same coin and he was only demanding a strong Lokpal, a Public Service Delivery Guarantee Act for implementation in all states and setting up of fast track courts to deliver judgments in one year with provisions for death sentence for the corrupt.
Making it clear that he was not targeting any political party, the Yoga teacher said that he was only aiming at removal of the 60-year old corrupt public administrative system in the country. “I am with Anna Hazare in demanding a strong Lokpal Bill for driving away corruption from the country,” he said.
Earlier, the government sent a team of ministers led by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee to the Delhi airport to discuss the issue with Ram Dev who arrived from Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh by a chartered flight. He held discussions with the ministers but the talks ended in failure.
Ram Dev does a U turn
Ram Dev, who said on Tuesday that the Prime Minister and Chief Justice of India should be kept out of Lokpal’s purview, backtracked today and said they must also be brought under the purview of the Lok Pal institution.
