Radioactive water being pumped out of Fukushima

japan-nuclaer-plantJapanese engineers and workers, after days of struggling, today began pumping out highly dangerous radioactive water that has accumulated in the basement of turbine buildings of the tsunami-crippled Fukushima nuclear plant to a specially erected storage area.

The pumping out radioactive water is part of the steps being taken to put the plant to normalcy. The workers have to pump out nearly 25,000 tons of radioactive water for allowing the engineers to work towards taking steps to restore the vital cooling systems that have gone astray during the March 11 tsunami which had killed more than 27,000 people.

The authorities however said that it will take more than nine months to put the reactors back to normalcy.
