In an incident that shocked the entire country, Nasik Additional District Collector Mr Yashwant Sonavane was burnt alive today by the petrol adulteration mafia in Maharashtra.

Sonavane, who has been sending shivers down the spine of the adulteration mafia in the district of Nasik ever since he took as its Additional Collector, went to a place near Malegaon at Manmad town for a ride on the mafia camps this morning.

Officials said that he has been conducting raids continuously and making life difficult for the adulteration gangs to operate in his district.  They have developed hatred against him and are waiting for an opportunity to strike at him, they said.

Reports indicate that the sincere and committed officer was cornered by the petrol adulteration mafia after a fierce argument at the place where he went for a ride. The culprits poured petrol on him and burnt him alive, according to information reaching the headquarters of Nasik.

On receiving information, senior officials and police rushed to the spot, 75 km away from Nashik city to recover his burnt body.
