No one including her parents expected her to do such a feat but the 23 year old animal lover Anusha Balakrishnan received a haul of 29 gold medals on Friday from the Tamil Nadu Governor Surjit Singh Barnala for her veterinary graduation course at the Madras Medical College.
At the end of the convocation, Anusha was not in a position to carry home all the medals and the certificates through her hands. The University awards 32 gold medals for the course and out of the 32, the young girl had bagged 29 giving pleasant surprise to those who attended the function.
Anusha said she developed love for animals at the age of ten and decided to become a vet. When she applied for a seat for the veterinary course, her parents were surprised at her selection but they could not oppose her efforts as it might hurt her passion and love for animals.
Anusha grew up in Delhi, took her veterinary degree from the most reputed 135-year-old Madras Veterinary University in Vepery through the 15 per cent all-India quota and now she was busy doing her internship at the emergency ward at a hospital in Wisconsin, USA.
She said she will begin her 3-year house-surgeon course in small animal practices at University of Pennsylvania this summer. “Most of patients were dogs and cats during my veterinary internship in Chennai but in the US, people are mostly bringing exotic pets like turtles, snakes and hamsters for treatment. People are also taking insurance for their pets now-a-days and it should be appreciated,” she said.
Andhrawishesh.com congratulates the young girl for her memorable feat and wishes her a pleasant career as a vet.
