4 more arrested in fake pilots’ scam

licence-scamDelhi police said today they have arrested four more persons including an official working in the office of the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and a pilot in the fake flying licenses scam.

The arrested are Pradeep Kumar of the DGCA office, pilot Pradeep Tyagi and two brokers. One of the touts is identified as Lalit Jain. With today’s arrests, the number of the arrested has gone up to 10.

Stunned and angered by the pilots obtaining their commercial licenses through fake documents, DGCA had recently cancelled licenses of 14 pilots. As per the prescribed rules and norms, a person is eligible to fly a commercial aircraft when he or she secures a Commercial Pilot License (CPL) after completing 200 hours of flying during the training.

The 14 pilots, whose licenses were cancelled, are alleged to have got fake certificates from a flying training institute in Rajasthan.

DGCA chief E. K. Bharat Bhushan told a press conference in Delhi today that they would conduct third party audit of all the 40 flying schools in the country in the wake of the scam.
