Getting married to Prakash on August 24 in Mumbai

Pony Varma, the versatile choreographer of Hindi cinema has been in the news for her alleged ‘affair’ with Prakash Raj. A big name in Bollywood, Pony has to thank Prakash and his Duet Films for making her presence felt in Kollywood through films like  Poi, Mozhi, Vellithirai, Inidhu Inidhu . Now she is making headlines with the news of her getting married to Prakash on August 24 in Mumbai. In an exclusive to sify.com, Pony Varma opens up.

How is it working with Prakash Raj the producer?
He makes opportunities happen for new faces and encourages people with talent. As a producer he is a wonderful person.

How would you describe your personal relationship with him?
(Smiles) Beautiful. The best till date….

Are you getting married to Prakash Raj?
You better ask that question to Mr. Prakash Raj. I refuse to further comment on the matter.

You are often seen in Priyadarshan films…
Yes Priyan sir is like a godfather to me. I have done more than a dozen films with him.

You have worked in both Bollywood and Kollywood. How different are the working styles
They are two very different worlds. In Kollywood they value songs a lot. And a lot of attention is paid to detailing of the song right down to the timing of it in the film. I get a lot of satisfaction working this way here. Another aspect I really appreciate is the way they stick to deadlines in Kollywood. This adherence to timing is lacking in Bollywood and things can take forever.

What are some of the films you have done recently in Bollywood?
I did Chandni Chowk to China, De Dhana Dhan, Khatta Meeta, Guzarish amongst others.

What is the USP of Pony Verma in this very competitive field?
I follow the story of the film and fit the song accordingly. I can say that versatility is my strong point.

Tell us about your work in Inidhu Inidhu which is to release this month?
The story is about college kids and it goes in one straight line so there are no weird time frames to co-ordinate. There’s are lots of songs and many characters and it’s a youth based subject with new faces so we went with a lot of candid, free movements. It was really a chilled out atmosphere for us and it wasn’t like a master and students kind of thing at all. It was more like a college outing and we were all buddies.

You are going to be present for the promotions of the film’s audio, which is not the norm usually for choreographers…
Well it’s done in Mumbai and we are present there for the audio launches. I’ m, here only to promote the film in Chennai. I won’t be traveling down south with the team which is visiting Coimbatore and other places.
