
Popular multilingual actress Sujatha, 58, who acted in more than 300 movies in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Hindi languages, passed away today at her house in Chennai.
Family members told media persons that Sujatha has been sick for the past few months and was being treated at home. Born in Sri Lanka on December 10, 1952, Sujatha entered the Telugu cinema industry through ‘Kathanayika’ and won the Nandi Award for her role in the movie ‘Pelli’ which featured Vadde Naveen and Maheswari in the main roles.
In several movies, she played the leading lady opposite top heroes like Rajanikanth, Sivaji Ganeshan, Kamal Hassan, Akkineni Nageswara Rao, NTR and Shoban Babu. Though her mother tongue is Malayalam, Sujatha learnt fluent Telugu, Tamil and Hindi and gave her own voice for all the roles she acted.
After playing heroine for two decades, she acted in roles of mother, mother-in-law and sister in several movies and some of her hit movies included ‘Gorintaku’, ‘Edantustula Meda’, ‘Anubhandam’, ‘Circus Ramudu’, ‘Sandhya’ and ‘Guppedu Manasu’.
Sujatha’s last movie is ‘Sri Rama Dasu’ in which she played the role of Dammakka, a tribal devotee of Lord Rama.
