There is no stopping when team India is in high spirits. That is what exactly happened on Saturday in Sri Lanka when Team India set up a huge total against the fifth and final ODI. Mahendra Singh Dhoni's men now sit in second place when ODI ICC ratings points are calculated to within the decimal point, despite being on equal points with Australia. However the annual ICC updates will be officially out on Wednesday. At the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium India won by twenty runs making history in the recent times and bagging the series with 4-1.
Devastating bowling from Irphan Pathan and his hunger for more Lankan batsmen played vital for the victory on the day. Gautham Gambhir's solid start with a knock of 88 runs with his willow proved fatal for the home team. Manoj Tiwary (65) and Dhoni (58) consolidated the Indian innings with a total of 294/7. As usual Mallinga was the only successful bowler for the home team and he claimed three wickets of the visitors.
The Lankans walked in with confidence but their game plans misfired when Tillakaratne Dilshan lost his wicket in the second over for zero score. However Lahiru Thirimanne (77) and Jeevan Mendis (72) pulled on with courage and went on the onslaught inspite of fierce bowling from the Indian side. While Tiwary was the most expensive bowler for the visitors who gave away 14 runs in his single over, the others were very aggressive. In the end the home team wound up in the 46th over for 274 runs and lost their battle.
At the end of the series it was Irfan Pathan who was named as the 'Man of the Match' and Virat Kohli who sent the Lankan bowlers in dismay in most encounters was named the 'Man of the Series.'India make a hat-trick win in the ODI series against Sri Lanka. Moments to rejoice for the ardent Indian cricket fan as such rare moments are cherishable! (off the records). (With inputs from internet-AW AarKay)
