Unlike England, WI faced no difficulty in beating the Dutch team in its yesterday’s World Cup match played at New Delhi.
On the back of Windies fast bowler, Kemar Roach’s hat-trick, West Indies achieved the biggest ever victory in its ODI history, overpowering the Netherlands by 230 runs. Kemar Roach, who bagged a rich haul of six wickets, routed the Dutch team for just 115. It was the first hat-trick in the World Cup.
Set the daunting target of 331 for victory, the Dutch team wilted under the sizzling pace of Kemar Roach, who snatched six wickets for the WI. Netherlands’ Cooper Kieron Pollard played a lone sedate knock of 55 with 9 hits to the fence. Rn Ten Doeschate, the century-hitter in the Netherland’s last match against England, however,was accounted for mere 7 runs by the spinner Sulemann Benn, who bowled a tight spell picking up three wickets for just 28 runs.
The Netherlands captain Peter Borren must have rued his decision to put the WI in after having won the toss. Chris Gayle, Devon Smith helped themselves with half-centuries against the minnows attack. Later, hard hitter Kevin Pollard, hit the third fastest half-century in the history of World Cup, smacking 60 runs in just 27 balls with the help of four mighty sixes and five fours.
For the Netherlands, left-arm spinner Pieteer Seelaar took three for 45 from his ten overs while Bukhari took two for 65.
West Indies next meets Bangladesh on 4th March at Mirpur, while the Proteas will play against the Netherlands in Mohali on 3rd March.
