A day ahead of the high-octane 2011 cricket world cup grand finale clash between neighbors India and Sri Lanka is to take place at the Wankhade stadium in Mumbai tomorrow, Indian captain MS Dhoni said that the batting wizard Sachin Tendulkar would have a sound and pleasant sleep for the night.
The entire country has been expecting him to score runs for the last 21 years after he made his debut in 1989 and the thought of expecting runs from him is not any thing new. “He has done a lot for the country and he doesn’t need to achieve anything more now,” Dhoni told journalists in Mumbai. “He would have a pleasant sleep for the night and come to his home ground to do his best in the finals tomorrow.”
Sachin till now made 99 centuries in his carrier, 51 tons in Tests and 48 tons in one day international matches and his 100th century is due.
Everyone expected him to make his 100th century in the semi finals against Pakistan at Mohali but he missed the century short of 15 runs.
Tendulkar scored two brilliant centuries in the world cup till now in the league matches, one against England and the other against South Africa.
Going philosophical, Dhoni said that milestones are not important. “What is important is how best you prepared for the game and the result is not in our hands. But we should try to give our best,” said the captain.
Speaking high of Sachin, Dhoni said he was a committed cricketer and his love and passion for the cricket was there for everyone to see all these years. “He always gives his best on the ground.”
Complimenting the legendary batsman for not changing his attitude towards cricket over the years, Dhoni said God had given Sachin Tendulkar a gift to play good cricket for longer years. “He will continue to play such good cricket for many more years,” he wrapped up his comments about his prized colleague.
