Inter-ministerial panel Telecom Commission has approved full mobile number portability [MNP] that enables subscribers to retain numbers when they relocate to any part of the country. The commission also gave nod to long-pending bill which includes introduction of Broadband network in Panchayats by 2017.
To strengthen telecom connectivity in North-East states, plans to set-up mobiles towers in nine affect naxals states have also been approved by this commission. These proposals will be placed before the cabinet for the final approval from the government.
If all the proposals will be okayed by the government, then by March 2017 around 2.5 lakh panchayats in the country can avail the Broadband connection.
