Scientists in a their recent study have found out that Earth and Moon were formed 60 million years back. The researchers said Earth's ancestor and planet sized body occurred around 40 million years after the start of solar system formation which means the Earth's formation is about 60 million years older than previously thought.
Measuring the changes in the proportions of different gases [isotopes] which survive from the early Earth is one of the standard methods to estimate early Earth events. However the scientists could ground upon a exact date for the formation of the Earth and added that it is not possible. Previously, it is estimated that Earth was formed 100 million years after the formation of solar system and now they claimed it as underestimated.
The study said, Earth's ancestor collided with another planet and resulted in Moon and the formation of atmosphere in Earth was calculated based on the xenon gas signals. The Geochemists from the University of Lorraine in Nancy, France have presented their research at the Goldschmidt Geochemistry Conference in Sacramento, California earlier this week.
