Amid rumors that Facebook has been negotiating with Whatsapp, it today rolled out a new change, which allows android mobile phone users to use the application without a Facebook account but with just your phone number.

Sign up with your phone number for the new messenger update for the Google Android phones in India, Indonesia, Australia, Venezuela and South Africa. The update is expected to crawl to the rest of the world and other platforms soon.

The instant messaging service allows users to text and have a video chat via the app. With the application not needing any Facebook integration, the userbase is expected to improve greatly.
