India is proud of being the manufacturer of the world's cheapest tablet for just $50 USD but the scene in the nation is entirely different. Being the cheapest tablet has its own cons. There is great demand for the tablet which has been piling up ever since Akash became available to the public last year. The backlog has now reached over 40 lakh bookings. With the point in view, Datawind has now planned to ramp up the production at the existing facilities and also will join hands with another assembly to meet the demand.
Suneet Singh Tuli the CEO of the Canada based company said that they would be increase the production to meet the demands for the tablet which is being sold commercially under the brand name Ubislate. This is being sold in the market now at Rs 4,500.
Datawind has been manufacturing the tablets at its own unit in Amritsar and has suppliers in major cities like Delhi, Bangalore and Hyderabad which can produce up to 3000 tablets every day.
