Viswakarma, is the pride of every artisan. According to the Hindu mythology Viswakarma is the divine personality who was known for his mystique creations. He was supposed to be the divine architect of the Universe. Close on the heels of the  engineers day on Saturday, this divine engineer is remembered by all artisans of the nation. The sole temple of the Lord of infrastructure in Guwahati was most visited by the devotees on 'Visvakarma Jayanthi', today.  

As an artisan and a carpenter he was the most revered engineer, and was first invoked even when mammoth infrastructure projects were taken up in the country. However it is true that determination, hard work and patience make a good artisan. In addition a prayer to the divine engineer is sure to yield benefits, believe many in the trade. Vishwakarma Jayanthi is celebrated by all industrial houses, artists, craftsman and weavers. The festival is observed on the Kanya Sankranti Day (September 17) which follows the Ganesh Puja.
