iPhone 5 to have a slimmer screen: WSJ

Apple's upcoming next generation iPhone, popular among the crowds by the name, iPhone 5, has been confirmed to have a much thinner screen than the one that it previously sported according to a report on Tuesday.

The new developed touch-screen technology has enabled the screen size to be reduced significantly by almost half a millimeter.

"The phone is being manufactured by the Asian component makers, according to a few sources", said Dow Jones Newswires.

The source has confirmed the use of “in-cell technology” which enables the integration between the touch sensors and the LCD panel hence eliminating the need for a seperate touch screen panel. The removal of the extra touch panel would result in a slimmer iPhone.

Another added benefit would be reflected in the price as the company no longer requires to purchase the seperate touch screen panes from the component suppliers. A sharp increase in the picture quality may also be witnessed.

Japanese LCD panel makers Sharp, Japan Displays and LG from South Korea are engrossed in the mass production of these panesl for the iPhone 5.

After the demise of Steve Jobs this is the first product that would hit the markets and it is expected to be available by the third quarter of this year, one year after the 4th Generation iPhone. However, a spokeswoman from Apple had refused to give the details of the release date.

With the sales of Samsung's latest flagship mobile S3 picking up its sales, Apple had announced a larger and a thinner screen for the next generation mobile with numerous other features.
