'Cool Blue’ to keep your buildings cooool

Come summers the sun is dogmatic, whether you are inside or out on the roads. Mounting electricity bills and upwards surge in sale of cooling white goods like ACs, fridges and coolers are evident. Scientists now have a chance to develop a compound `Cool blue’ to keep you happy and avoid the expenses. True Cool Blue is a compound that needs to be painted upon the buildings, roofs and then relax no more bills and no more heat either. The compound is discovered to posses some unusual and beneficial characters like reflecting heat, which can be potentially helpful for saving energy in buildings.

Actually this compound was stumbled upon by a team of Oregon State University (OSU) scientists. They were investigating some materials for their electrical properties. Though the incident occurred three years ago, has undergone various tests. The value addition is right now ready for a patent.

This is real good news for those of us living in the equatorial regions where the sun’s effect is adverse in summers. "This pigment has infrared heat reflectivity of about 40 percent, which is significantly higher than most blue pigments now being used," said Mas Subramanian, an OSU professor of chemistry who discovered the compound.

"The more we discover about the pigment, the more interesting it gets," Subramanian said. "We already knew it had advantages of being more durable, safe and fairly easy to produce. Now it also appears to be a new candidate for energy efficiency.

The researchers claimed that this is probably the best blue pigment humans have produced since ancient times, going back to efforts by the Egyptians, the Han dynasty in China and Mayan cultures. (With Inputs from Internet- Aarkay)
