Vegans live longer than non-vegetarians

Loma Linda University has recently found of from studies that vegan lifestyle could impart several much wanted benefits to man.

At the Californian university, since the 70s and 80s there were studies which recorded the eating habits and the lifestyle of Seventh-day Adventists since 1958. Based on these studies they recently revealed that vegetarians were to live longer than non-vegetarians. This is the first time such a theory was proved according to Huffington post.

If a vegetarian diet consists mainly of fruits, legumes, vegetables and nuts, the person would be at a lower risk of several diseases that plague the humans today including cancer, heart disease and type 2 diabetes. Such a diet can also keep the body mass index and waist size under check. Brain health would also be better relatively.

National Institute of Health had granted funds to the Loma Linda in 2002 to continue the study on Seventh-day Adventists. The study is on its way to completion currently. There are over 96,000 people in the US and Canada who have been participants of this study.

According to the studies it was found that Adventist men had an average life span of 83.3 years while women lived 85.7 years. This is significantly greater than most of the Californians (by 9.5 years and 6.1 years respectively).

The latest round of study reveals several other interesting factors

Vegans weigh 30 pounds lesser than Non-vegetarians.
Vegans on BMI have at least a five unit benefit on average.
Insulin resistance is less frequent in vegans.
Lean people exercise more, eat vegetables and are not plagued by addictions like smoking compared to obese and overweight folks.
Part-vegetarians and Pesco-vegetarians who consume limited quantities of animal products and eat meat once a week have better protection against lifestyle diseases than the non-vegetarians and inferior health than the vegetarians.

They have proved that obesity claims over 6.2% of life of every African-American person.

With such strong facts stating that greens are good for health, there is no reason why you shouldn't try and change your lifestyle for a better health. Go Vegan!
