Weak Rupee hits Indian Students purses

The uneven surge in the rupee-dollar rating has hit hard on many segements delaing with global operations. Be it the imports or any international financial dealings, but the worst hit are the students. Whether they are in abroad or aspiring to go abroad the budgets have escalated drastically making it difficult for them to deal. Not enough that the weak rupee dance has affected the National economy, it seems to ruin the students abroad too. If records are to be believed rupee has weakened by about 20 per cent since the beginning of the calender year. This has devastated students  with overseas education costs that have also gone up almost equivalently.

`The rupee coupled with a slowing global economy, strict visa norms and stringent immigration policies have made the prospects of overseas education more gloomy' say experts. Apart from the rupee-dollar bad performance, rupee has not been abled to hold against any major global currencies too as a chain reaction.  The rupee has fallen by around 18 per cent against the Singapore dollar, 17 per cent against the Canadian dollar, about 16 per cent against the British pound and 13 per cent against the Australian dollar.

Statistics show that Indian students make up for about 15 per cent of the foreign student population in the US, second only to China that accounts for about 19 per cent. An Indian student is a welcome addition in the American educational system not because he or she is a money bag, but for the potential they bring along. However  from the Indians point of view they need to accept this invitation after bearing the brunt of the rupee-dollar skiing.

However this simply means that the middle class man has to shoulder more burden and cut down even some essential commodities from the regular budgets to help children study. Because in most cases education loans are the best means to achieve the objective and with this situation more loan and more EMI too.  (With inputs from internet-AarKay)
