No More dumping in Yamuna

The National Green Tribunal [NGT] has imposed a fine of Rupees 5000, if people found dumping waste and debris in the river Yamuna hereafter. Generally people of Delhi dispose worship material waste into the holy river from bridges across it. Besides this, the pollutants from the industries have almost destroyed the river's ecosystem and so to stop this practice, previous governments have taken few initiatives but they weren't that successful.

The NGT bench headed by chairperson Justice Swatanter Kumar directed that this regulation comes in effective right away. The Yamuna Action Plan which is operative since 1993 could not bring any good results but we have to see whether this imposition of fine could have any implication or not. On the other hand, several activists are gearing for a massive protest on February 1st.
