Death Toll in Uttarakhand Reaches 60

The River Ganges that is considered and adored by Hindus as consort of Lord Shiva, a sacred one to make the sinners purify their sins just by taking a dip into it, showed her furious face since 5 days and took lives of so many in the State of Uttarakhand.  The Yamuna too is flowing with heavy floods.  About 57000 pilgrims are stranded at Uttarkasi, Chamoli and Rudra Prayaga.

All this is due to the heavy rains that were not seen for the last 5 decades as per the Director, Meteorological Center at Dehradun.  The rain fall, he said, reached a record of 340 mm in almost 50 years in the month of June.

There are floods, landscapes, cloud bursts and heavy rains on top of it to make the rescue operations difficult to carry on. Roads, bridges and buildings were washed away in the devastating floods.

Heavy rains made havoc in the entire Northern part of India.

As per the latest report about 60 persons were killed and 40 were injured.  About 160 houses were gutted.  Actual number will be known only after the nature comes to normalcy, which is feared to be very heavy.
