Scotland has voted against independence from the United Kingdom in a historic referendum. As per final results from Edinburgh the capital of Scotland, “No” received 61.1 per cent votes compared to 38. per cent for “Yes”. The turnout here was 84.4 per cent. The "No" campaign got 1,914,187 votes, while "Yes" have just over 1,539,920. A total of 1,852,828 votes are needed for victory in the referendum.
Scottish pro-independence leader and First Minister Alex Salmond accepted the defeat and welcomed the people's verdict. Prime Minister David Cameron will be hosting a press meet at 7 AM local time and the Queen is also likely to release a written statement later this afternoon.
