Supreme Court asks Centre to Submit a Status Report on Vijay Mallya's Extradition:- Indian liquor baron and businessman Vijay Mallya has been absconding and the Indian government has been working hard to extradite Vijay Mallya back to the country. He is currently residing in the United Kingdom and he owes Rs 9000 plus crores to Indian banks. The Supreme Court today asked the Centre to file a status report about the pending proceedings of the extradition of Vijay Mallya in less than six weeks. The Centre told the Supreme Court that Vijay Mallya cannot be extradited to the country until a secret legal process in the United Kingdon is initiated.

A bench headed by U U Lalit along with Ashok Bhushan asked the Solicitor General Tushar Mehta to file a status report in the case of Vijay Mallya in six weeks. The apex court also informed that the hearing would take place in the first week of January next year. Advocate E C Agarwala appeared for Vijay Mallya in the Supreme Court and sought the discharge from the case but the bench of the Supreme Court refused to accept the plea. Vijay Mallya flew from the country and he has been residing in the United Kingdom since March 2016. The government of United Kingdom said that Vijay Mallya will be extradited to India anytime soon.
