Telangana Artist Chukka Sattaiah Passes Away

Telangana Artist Chukka Sattaiah Passes Away:- Telangana artist Chukka Sattaiah (82) passed away in his native place on Thursday morning. He was the doyen of one of Telangana’s oldest traditional art form “Oggu Katha”.

A traditional folklore singing art form of widespread popularity is known as Oggu Katha. And Chukka Sattaiah was the biggest name related to it. In recognition of his lifetime contribution to the art form, the Telangana’s Department of Culture had made a special provision for him.

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao lamented the death as a great loss. He further expressed his condolences to the family of Sattaiah. Moreover, for popularising one of Telangana’s oldest local art forms, KCR lauded Sattaiah.

BJP State president K Laxman also expressed condolence. He said that Sattaiah who had won many national laurels for his marvellous work, was a State treasure.

In Manikyapuram village of Lingala Ghanapuram mandal under Jangaon district, Chukka Sattaiah was born on March 29, 1935. At a young age, he had learnt the art form from his father and is known to be performing since he was 14.

With more than 12,000 performances, a Facebook page in his name credits the late artist. Sattaiah adapted his art form to storytelling after receiving recognition for his work from former prime minister Indira Gandhi. Sattaiah’s work mainly aimed at spreading awareness against social evils such as dowry and superstition.
