Underworld Don Critical : Real or Rumor ?

India’s most wanted underworld don, Dawood Ibrahim, is hospitalized in Pakistan’s Karachi, said an unconfirmed report, yesterday.

The report claimed that, the 61-year-old underworld don suffered a heart attack and was admitted to the Aga Khan Hospital in the city. However, Dawood Ibrahim’s close aide Chhota Shakeel dismissed the reports, saying he was fine. Instead, a leading news paper, quoted sources as saying that Dawood visits hospital from time to time, and he has not been hospitalized nor he is critical.

As per the reports, the underworld don is suffering from the gangrene of the limbs and had a stroke in the past. Dawood visits the Aga Khan hospital frequently for medical rehabilitation. The gangster was last spotted at Ex Pakistan cricketer, Javed Mianad’s house on April 19, says sources. The gangster’s daughter Mahrukh is married to Miandad’s son Junaid since 2005.

India since years had said, that it had proof that Dawood is hiding in Karachi, and also believes that the gangster controls part of the Mumbai underworld, which invests heavily in real estate and the film industry. Additionally, Dawood’s ‘D-Company’, which has business investments in Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), is also involved in extortion, peddling counterfeit Indian currency and music piracy. The interpol has issued a red corner notice against Dawood and many of his associates for their involvement in the 1993 blasts.

Dawood is accused of plotting the 1993 serial blasts in Mumbai in which over 300 people were killed and 700 were injured. The mafia don is believed to have financed the attacks on orders from Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence. He is also accused of masterminding other terror attacks and faced multiple charges of money laundering and extortion. India and the US also say that Dawood financed terror groups including al Qaeda and Lashkar-e-Taiba.
