Access to Axis Bank?

A Bangalore based IT professional shared his money in the Axis Bank account with hackers without knowing about it at that time.  Ramesh R Magadi who recently returned from USA opened his account with Axis Bank and successfully did his first online transaction by booking tickets to Tirupati.  Many hackers followed suit.  They used his account as if it is a public account with free access to everyone whoever wishes to use, ciphering all the balance of Rs.56000/- in the account.

It happened on July 27 and came to the notice of the actual account holder on 29th when he tried to book his return tickets from Tirupati at which time the transaction was denied with a responsive note that the amount in the account is insufficient to make the transaction.  Shocked by it Magadi complained to the Bank.  On inquiry it was known that a number of transactions took place from other parts of the country from the States of Gujarat, Jammu and Kashmir and Maharashtra on the very day of his usage.  A total of 27 transactions took place from his account by many for mobile currency and insurance premium payments.

Out of the loss of Rs.56186, Axis Bank accepted that transactions to the tune of Rs.11000/- were unauthorized and the amount was promptly credited back to his account.  This happened after lot of pursuit and reasoning with the Bank officers that a person at Tirupati could not have transacted from all over India.

This is not a solitary case.  A retired Army Officer who started his own motor service center complained to the police in June this year that his Axis bank account was hacked and money was withdrawn.

Police are making investigations but so far nothing turned up.
