Supreme Court: Aadhaar Not Needed For Banking And Linking Mobiles:- The Supreme Court in a shocking move declared that Aadhaar is not mandatory for banking and other important aspects that the Government introduced. Aadhaar is not needed for banking, linking mobiles, for securing school admissions and for appearing in UGC, NEET & CBSE examinations. However the Supreme Court clarified that Aadhaar is now mandatory for getting PAN Card and for filing the income tax returns. Supreme Court ruled out Section 57 of Aadhaar act that reveals the use of Aadhaar number for establishing the identity of an individual.

Supreme Court revealed that there is a fundamental difference between Aadhaar card and the identity of an individual. Retired HC judge K Puttaswamy is leading a group of petitioners on the ground that Aadhaar violates the right to privacy of individuals. The Supreme Court heard over 27 petitions that challenged the validity of the Aadhaar. A five-judge bench led by Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra, Justice A K Sikri, Justice A M Khanwilkar, Justice D Y Chandrachud, Justice Ashok Bhusha pronounced the verdict.
