In a shocking incident, angry villagers burnt a leopard to death in Surat. The incident came soon after a girl was attacked and killed by the leopard.
According to the reports, Nitika, an 8 year old girl was attacked by the leopard on November 1 when she came out of her home to relieve herself.
After the forest department came to know about this, they trapped and caged the leopard. However, villagers of Vadi got furious and caught hold of the cage. They threw petrol on the leopard and set it ablaze.
The village is the hometown of Gujarat Cabinet's minister for forest and environment, Ganpat Vasava. After he got to know about the incident, he announced Rs 4 lakhs compensations to the girl’s family.
The forest department however has lodged a complaint against the villagers and an investigation is underway. The leopard remains were sent for forensic examination.
