There have been several rumors about critical health of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa since twelve days. The CM was hospitalized in Apollo Hospital Chennai on September 22 for fever and dehydration.
Since then her party had to correct all the perception that she is seriously unwell. This rumor was gained after doctors failed to give updates on the CM 's health condition for a long time.
But recently the doctors confirmed that her health continues to improve.
There were rumors of CM being more critically ill than acknowledged by her party. Although AIADMK maintained that she only had fever and dehydration several rumors rose. Tamil Nadu Governor, C Vidyasagar Rao, visited the Chief Minister on Saturday evening and confirmed that she is "recovering well".
Apollo Hospital said "the leader is better, but remains on respiratory support and is advised to remain there for a few more days. Over the weekend, it confirmed that a UK specialist in sepsis, an infection of the bloodstream and a serious medical condition, was flown in to supervise her recovery."
Unlike other states, there is a centralized structure in Tamil Nadu government with Chief Minister's office (CMO) holding virtually all decision-making power. The CM has four private secretaries who take care of all her 54 government departments.
The Chief Secretary and the official adviser of the CM, Sheela Balakrishnan are reported who are a long-time trusted aide.
An AIADMK official gave a statement who wished not to be unnamed. He said that "this team of 6, who have also been visiting the hospital, are in charge for now."
Ms. Jayalalithaa's close associate, Sasikala Natarajan also visited the hospital along with senior AIADMK ministers like O Paneerselvam.
Opposition leader, M Karunanidhi urged the party to release a photo of CM so that all the false rumors are stopped.
The party said, "it does not feel the need to do so, and filed four police cases against people who misreported her health on social media."
The AIADMK also said that "the Chief Minister is fit enough to monitor Tamil Nadu's seething war with neighbor Karnataka over its share of water from the River Cauvery, and has, from her hospital bed, dictated crucial statements to be presented at meetings on the dispute."
