After one year of Telangana State formation, its first Chief Minister Kalvakuntla Chandrasekhar Rao has another reason to celebrate. From now onwards, the revenue of Hyderabad is going to be used only for the development of Telangana State, which earlier was used to be segregated between Andhra Pradesh and Telanganatwo States.
"Earlier on, the revenues from Hyderabad - the economic engine in the entire region - used to fund expenditures of old Andhra Pradesh. Now the revenue is used only for Telangana, which is much smaller. As a result the finances of Telangana are better than any other state in the country, barring Gujarat," says a top economist who does not want to be named.
Now the jubilant KCR is pushing son and minister K T Rama Rao to aggressively woo investments from abroad and KTR got succeeded in bringing Search Giant Google to Hyderabad. So now KCR eyes on a highly urbanized Telangana. KCR, who is known for his rabid anti-Andhra statements, has now given up his old habit.
With revenue flooding in, KCR has now become like a monarch and is not discussing any issues with the party members, sources said. "Never in the past have we seen a chief minister personally negotiating defections," says Telangana PCC president Uttam Kumar Reddy. But the fact of the matter is that KCR does everything personally. "It's a one-man government, nobody else matters" say all who are in the know of things. This has its own advantages, say businessmen. "If you can reach him, you can get your job done easily. There are no multi-level clearances and bureaucratic roadblocks," a top businessman says.
